All of our Mestel masks feature their unique polycarbonate face plate for the widest possible field of view, so say goodbye to seeing the world through two small lense. The polycarbonate face not only provides excellent visibility for the wearer, but does not obscure your face like a black rubber mask would. This allows others to identify you and makes these masks excellent in group settings. The polycarbonate also provides excellent impact resistance and can protect your face from fragments, stones and debris thrown up in an explosion. The 400 series of masks is also tested to resist aggressive and corrosive substances and to allow unlimited decontaminations, including boiling water decontamination, without deterioration.

These masks are also far more comfortable to wear than traditional black rubber gas masks, partly because the face shiled provides rigidity, allowing the rubber seal to be softer and more flexible than in traditional masks, and partly because the force of the straps are better distributed across the wearer's head. The face seal is constructed from soft silicone rubber or, in the case of the SGE 400/3 BB mask, butyl rubber. Inside, the oral-nasal unit component, which comes in direct contact with the wearer's face, is made from soft medical-grade silicone rubber designed to be non-allergenic. It is very soft and comfortable to wear and can be removed by hand for cleaning or replacement.

Because the masks use standard NATO fittings, they can use any NATO standard filter. Each mask ships with a single NBC-rated filter with a NATO thread that is designed to remove harmful gases, vapors and solid particles (including fallout) from the inhaled air. These filters are designed to remove organic gases, inorganic gases, acid gases and ammonia and organic derivatives. This includes gases potential used in chemical warfare and industrial accidents, including chlorine and cyanide: C6H12, CL2, H2S, HCN, SO2 and NH3. Note that these filters have a shelf life of three to five years. Actual gas filtration capacity in use depends on the concentration of gas. Filters will last longer in environments with low concentrations and will need regular replacement when higher concentrations of toxic gases are present. Additional filters are sold below.

The SGE 400 comes in three models. All three can be equipped with a drinking tube and protective hood (as pictured above, right), and an optional microphone connection kit:

• The SGE 400 allows you to use a single filter mounted in the front of the mask. Available for immediate shipment.
• The SGE 400/3 includes three mounting points for the filter, front and both sides. This side mounting allows the wearer to use a shoulder-mounted weapon on the opposite side while wearing the mask or to wear two filters at once. Available for immediate shipment.
• The SGE 400/3 BB uses butyl rubber instead of the more comfortable silicone. Butyl rubber provides a greater degree of protection against mustard gas and other corrosive gases. Available only as special orders.

Just like the adult mask, but fitted for children. Best for kids over age 6 who can understand why they should not take it off.
